Naturalake Biosciences has developed some brand new, very exciting pond technology that they are calling oxygen saturation technology. For those of you who have done your research, this is not simple bottom aeration, nor is it nanobubbles. This is something very different and more effective at putting more oxygen down low in the pond or lake right where it is needed the most. This new technology, combined with structures like the BioBoost Nest and bacterial applications, will significantly enhance the effectiveness of future muck and nutrient reduction in these bodies of water.
This is truly a next-generation aquatic aeration system!
Key benefits and highlights
- Drastically increases oxygen levels (>80% saturation).
- Does not disturb sediments or cause unnatural mixing.
- Reduces muck and eliminates harmful algae blooms.
- Preserves thermal stratification.
- Oxygen Saturation Technology is a modular system that can be custom-scaled to fit any size water body.
- 220 volts with 30 amp service per system required.
Uses & Applications (including, but not limited to):
- Lakes and ponds
- Aquaculture
- Drinking reservoirs
- Stormwater ponds
- Harmful algae bloom management
- Fish Kills
- Fecal coliform
- Odors
- Iron staining
- Sediment reduction
- Manganese control
- Cold water fisheries
Operation Cycles Using Dissolved Oxygen Data
Oxygen saturation technology is designed to maintain exactly the ideal dissolved oxygen levels in the body of water, between 15-20 mg/L, by cycling on and off as necessary. This new system will distribute oxygen-rich water throughout the hypolimnion layer (the lowest water level), blanketing and penetrating the sediment.
This new technology beats out nanobubbles, diffused bottom aeration, and fountain aeration by a long shot. It can increase and maintain dissolved oxygen levels (8 – 25 mg/L) which is optimal for fish habitat.
This system has been proven to prevent harmful algae blooms by driving dissolved oxygen into the sediment which reduces nutrient re-release, slowing down algae growth. It has also been shown to reduce fecal coliform.
It can be used in water depths less than 8 feet but works best in deeper water.
It does not mix the water body the way that typical diffused bottom aeration does, so it maintains the thermal structure of the water body. It will not affect summer stratification or winter ice cover.
Average dissolved oxygen levels at levels below 1.5 at the pond bottom have been found to double within the first six days and then continue to rise to more than 5 times the original levels by day 16. This is some serious oxygenation.
The Old Ways
Many lakes and ponds are being treated by identifying what is growing on the surface and then applying harmful chemicals to the water to slow or stop the growth of unwanted organisms. Unfortunately, chemical treatments fail to address the root cause of many water quality issues. For the vast majority of lakes and ponds, the root cause of the problems on the surface lies in the nutrient-rich muck on the bottom. This muck will only get worse and worse over time as more chemicals are added to the pond or lake.
By implementing oxygen saturation technology, we can safely and naturally clear up high nutrient levels in ponds and lakes, eliminating the need for additional chemical treatments, as well as reducing the layers of muck over time. Not only are we saving costly chemicals and saving the lives of all of the beneficial microorganisms that the chemicals kill, but we are also going to be saving a great deal of money in the long run by eliminating the need for dredging of the pond bottom.
