Many people are choosing to install a pondless water feature on their property rather than a pond. I am partial to ponds because I love the body of water and I love the fish, but I do see the attraction of the pondess.
The beauty of a pondless system, if built correctly, is its beauty and ease of maintenance. A pondless does not need to be continually circulated, because we are not trying to maintain water quality in a body of water. The pondless will give you all of the sights and sounds of a beautiful waterfall, without the maintenance associated with a pond.
Pondless Pros | Pondless Cons |
Only run it when you want to. | You can’t have fish because there is no pond. |
No need for water additives, just turn it off to let the algae dry if you have an algae bloom. | You can’t swim. |
No need to worry about it when you go out of town, just turn it off. | You can’t have water lilies. |
Save electricity by only running it when you are there to enjoy it. | You can’t sit and dangle your feet in the water. |
No need to ever remove the pump or clean any filters (if installed correctly) | You can’t gaze down into the water and watch your fish swim. |
The sights and sounds of a waterfall or stream. | It may not look as natural, since waterfalls don’t typically disappear into the ground. |
No need to ever empty the water.
Just turn it off for the winter (if you’d like).
Blow the leaves off and turn it back on in spring.
You can still have aquatic plants if you’d like.
No chance of any water hazard such as drowning. |
A Word of Warning
Not all pondless systems are created equally. If you or someone you hire installs a pondless kit, you will not have many of the above advantages, because the intake pit will be shallow and small. All of our pondless systems are built using our wet well intake system, so there is plenty of water and no need for any pump maintenance.
